GPS Tracking Issue
Problem
The driver's pin on the IDS GPS Map is not accurate or is not updating.
Africa
If IDS's GPS Map is showing your driver in the middle of the ocean off the coast of Africa, that is because the phone has either never sent a real GPS location to IDS or it is sending 0,0.
0 Latitude, 0 Longitude, is located off the Coast of Africa.
General
For IDS's Map to show the driver's latest GPS location, the following must be true:
- The driver's device must have GPS on.
- The driver's device must have a GPS lock and active GPS signal.
- The driver must be logged into IDS's App with the correct username.
- The driver must have an active data signal.
GPS On, Locked and Active
Modern smart phones have many "location services", but only one of those services is real GPS. To see if the phone has real GPS turned on and active, do the following.
- Most Android Smart Phones have a Quick Selection to turn on or off GPS. If your phone has this, simply go to the GPS quick selection and make sure its turned on.
- If your Android Smart Phone does not have a Quick Selection for GPS or you are not sure, then do the following:
- Go to Settings.
- Then Location
- The turn on Location.
- Depending on your Android Smart phone, to turn on Location, there will be a check box or a slider on the top right hand side of the screen.
- If you are still not sure or are having troubles, google your phone model and "how to turn on GPS" or call your phone provider.
- Even if GPS is turned on, it doesn't mean your phone is connected to the GPS satellites orbiting earth. To see if your phone does have an active and locked GPS signal do the following:
- On the phone, go to Google Maps.
- Click on the icon for "locate me." This is the compass symbol located on the bottom right hand side of the screen.
- If your phone can only capture Assisted GPS, not true GPS, then you will see a big blue circle with a tiny dot in the middle, like this:
- Since this is not an accurate GPS location, IDS cant use it and the driver will not map on IDS's GPS map. To fix, with the phone's GPS still on, leave your phone by a window or go outside for a few minutes. If it still will not map accurately, call your phone's provider for assistance.
- When your phone does have a real GPS signal that is active and locked that IDS can use to accurately map your driver, then there will not be a big blue circle, there will only be a tiny dot, like this:
- Once you see the tiny dot showing the phone does have a real GPS lock, try mapping the driver in IDS again. Sometimes it can take up to 4 minutes for the new GPS location to show on the map.
Active Data Signal
Even if you can accurately locate yourself on the phone's Google Maps, as per above, if you are not logged into IDS as the correct user and dont have an active data signal on the phone, IDS will not map you. To check, please do the following:
- If you are logged into IDS's App on the phone, log out, then back in. When you log back in, take a moment in the login screen to ensure you are logging in as the user you are trying to map.
- If you have any issues logging back in, please read the IDS 2 App Trouble Shooting articles.
