IDS 2Core, is IDS's next generation Platformplatform.

Back Work began in the Spring of 2015, IDS started scoping what platform, what features and what functionality IDS 2 will contain.

As some of you know, IDS maintains a "Christmas List" of requested features from our existing clients. We combined this list with our own feature requests based on what new technology will become available in the next few years.

We completed the scope document in the Fall of 2015.

March 2018 update

IDS is currently working on the Dispatch "Module" for IDS 2. We will be field testing in April 2018.

The IDS 2 Dispatch Screens will allow you to spawn multiple Dispatch and Drivers Boards with only 1 IDS 2 PC client running. These windows can be dragged outside of IDS onto any monitor connected to the dispatcher's computer.

You will be able to easily create filters with sub filters using simple dropdowns for both the Dispatch AND the Drivers boards, then save the set up so the next time the dispatchers logs in, all their custom boards will automatically load.

As of March 2018:

  1. We are currently working on the IDS 2 Drivers and Dispatch Screens for IDS Tracking.
  2. The IDS 2 Shipping Portal has been publicly launched: How to IDS 2 Shipping Portal
  3. The IDS 2 App has been publicly launched to all users: IDS App 2
  4. The server changes were deployed in the fall of 2016.
  5. The database changes were deployed in the winter of 2016/2017
  6. The IDS 1 App has been updated to handle the updates to the Servers and Database. IDS 1 App will be retired in June of 2018. There will be NO! future changes to this app.
  7. The IDS 2 Route has been updated in Beta Testing form with new functionality. This is the IDS Module that calculates mileage and optimizes deliveries.

Why has IDS 2 taken so long.....

Back in the fall of 2016 our original test IDS 2 PC Client ran into some issues on Windows 10.

    1. Windows 10 has altered how office networks and domains operate.
    2. We know that IDS Customers running on pre Windows 10 office networks, cant just update their computers to Windows 10. Its not a simple task.
    3. Windows 10 has altered the GUI for PC Clients with the introduction of the Metro UWP. In plain English, this is what drives how a software program looks and behaves on the Windows Computer. The Metro UWP does not exist for Windows 7.
    4. Within 3 years, Windows 7 will be completely retired by Microsoft. IDS's goal is to provide a platform of our PC Client that will take us beyond 2020.
    5. As such, IDS has had to alter how our IDS 2 Client was written so that existing clients who cant upgrade to Windows 10 can still run the IDS 2 PC Client, yet provide a platform that will take IDS and our customers beyond 2020.

Great, but When!

I'm sure your first question will be, "When?" To put it bluntly, we are not going to rush this out. We know that at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what new features IDS 2 offers. What matters is that it can handle the real world. So if we need more time to do real Quality Assurance Testing, we are going to take it.

Change Management

!NOT! too worry, IDS 2 is designed to work with IDS 1 in the same office to help you manage change when you migrate over the IDS 2. Do note, you may not be able to use all the new features until everyone is moved over.

No More Java.

The biggest feature of IDS 2 is it is not Java based. IDS no longer sees the need to support iOS (Apple), as such we no longer see the need to create a cross platform PC Client. As such we are dropping Java.

Native of Windows Software Program

The new client is a Native Windows Software Program.

It will be supported on Windows 7, 8 and 10.

Not Supported on Windows XP

Since Microsoft stopped support for XP (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/end-support-help), IDS 2 will not work on Windows XP.

What are some of the new features.

The following is a list of some, but not all, of the new features and some screen shots.

Please Note. As we build and test, we will discover better ways of doing things. I am only providing this list so you can see what we are trying to accomplish. This is not a guarantee that the final IDS 2 will look exactly or behave exactly as described below.IDS Core is now being rolled out to a selected group of users.

For IDS Core's Online Knowledge Base aka Manual, please go to: I2P

General

  • MicroSoft C# .NET application running on Azure.
  • Will connect to IDS 1.  During the transition period, offices will be able to run IDS 1 and IDS 2 at the same time.
  • All existing IDS Clients, whose accounts are in good order, will receive IDS 2 at no extra cost.
  • IDS Android, IDS Android Advance and IDS HTML5 will work with IDS 2.
  • IDS Webtools will work with IDS 2. At this time, we are not planning a new skin for webtools as that was just completed less than a year ago.
  • Existing Customizations and Reports will work in IDS 2 at no extra cost to our existing users whose accounts are in good order

New Layout

The following is real screen shot of the IDS 2 PC Client's new Staff Members Screen. As you can see this screen shot also shows some of the new powerful tools in the tool bar across the top as well as a lot of new powerful tools for staff members.

Trip Entry Screen

  • Caller's details will now be saved and stored. This will allow you to quickly select a caller so their phone number and email address will automatically populate the trip. This will allowing for better use of trip confirmation emails.

  • Will allow 1 shipment to have multiple stops.

  • Will allow 1 shipment to contain multiple package types and DIMS.

  • Will allow multiple documents (word, jpg, pdf, etc) to be attached to shipments.

  • A new type of quote. Existing quote features will exist plus we will be adding a new type of quote, which will save a shipment as inactive. Users will then be able to quickly search through these quotes to find one and make it active.
