Note: Every IDS client will have set up IDS or will need to set up IDS in their own unique way. There is no Industry Standards for Rates, Service Levels, Packages Types, Zones and Accessorial Charges.

The following is article uses examples to explain how IDS works for pricing. Your IDS set up will be different, please use the examples to better understand how IDS's Pricing Works. 

In IDS's PC Client, if you open navigate to the Trip Entry Screen, you will see a screen something similar to this:

The bottom section of the Trip Entry Screen is labelled "Charges":
 

Is This area is for Accessorial Charges such as Power Tailgate, Waiting Time; for Sales Taxes such as GST, PST, VAT; and for Fuel Surcharges. 

The amounts calculated by the Charge's Section show up in the totals Total's Section located in the bottom right hand side of the Trip Entry Screen. To be clear, in the image below, the lines that show a price generated by the Charge's Section are highlighted in Yellowyellow.

 

You can manage, edit and create charges in the Charges Wizard.

Rate Wizard

The Rate Wizard looks at a shipment's PickUp Address Zone, Delivery Address Zone, Piece and/or Weight, Package Type and Service Level.

The amounts calculated by the Rate Wizard show up in the Total's Section located in the bottom right hand side of the Trip Entry Screen. To be clear, in the image below, the line that shows a price generated by the Rate Wizard is highlighted in yellow.

When the Rate Wizard generates a rate, it looks at the Pick Up and the Delivery Address' Zones. The Zone is automatically selected by IDS by matching what is in the Postal Code/Zip field of the Pick Up Address and the Delivery Address with the correct Zone.

Zones are created and edited in the Rate Wizard in the Zone Screen, please refer to this article: How to Create Edit Zones

The relations between a Pick Up Address's or Delivery Address's Postal Code/Zip Code to a Zone is manage by the Zone Wizard, please refer to this article: How to Create Edit Zone to Zip - Postal Code Relationship

The Rate Wizard then looks at a shipment's Service Level. 

Service Levels are created and edited in the Rate Wizard in the Service Level Screen, please refer to this article: How to Create a Service Level

Then the Rate Wizard looks at a shipment's Package Type.

Then the Rate Wizard looks up the Zones, Service Level and Package Type in the Rate Matrix Screen to generate the price.
